Early in his career Akhtar knew there would be challenges whether that was from the institutionalised middle management or people who didn’t like change. Akhtar worked in institutions where a job was for life (and sometimes even the desk), thus people becoming set in their ways. Therefore being an ethnic minority in these institutionalised businesses Akhtar got used to taking knocks and always getting up, but not just getting up but getting up stronger, more confident and more resilient.
Beginnings
Whilst Akhtar realised change was the only constant in his life and embraced it as an opportunity to grow and diversify, building his confidence and self esteem. Akhtar ensured he never lost touch of both his religious and ancestral roots from Pakistan. This was to be a balancing act that led Akhtar to take a leading role in setting up and spear-heading I&D at a FTSE 100.
During this period a Trade Union Rep coached and mentored Akhtar. This led to Akhtar paying it forward by starting to give back to his colleagues by becoming a trained Union Rep, representing colleagues during formal cases, helping colleagues prepare for redundancy / retirement etc. and also the Black Members Union rep for his Branch. This passion led Akhtar to pursue further self development and training, leading to certification in:
- Practitioner of Coaching
- Practitioner of Timeliness
- Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming
- Practitioner Hypnotherapy.
